Welcome to the team: Matteo Busetti

Job title: Commercial Graduate

Length of position: 1 year and 9 months (September 2023)

Tell us a little about your background

My background is rooted in a blend of management and finance, which I pursued through my bachelor and master's studies. Prior to my current role at Berwick Bank, I gained some experience in project management within the vibrant startup ecosystem of Berlin's Health Tech sector.

Following this, I embarked on a different journey with SSE's graduate scheme, a decision driven by my interest in the sustainability of the energy sector. Glasgow became my new home as I explore diverse opportunities within the industry and carve out my niche.

What attracted you to joining SSE Renewables?

Not only is this part of the business crucial for achieving net-zero emissions, but it's also an incredibly fascinating field to work in, with its mix of technical challenges, environmental considerations, and innovation. I wanted a career that would help tackle climate change and promote renewable energy, making SSE Renewables a perfect fit. Plus, I was excited to get a grasp on engineering skills as I believe these are crucial to properly understand the challenges and opportunities for the transition to a sustainable energy industry.

What is your role on the Berwick Bank team?

My role revolves around Project Management and Interface Management. The latter consists of minimising risks that exist at the interface between contract parties where hardware, software and execution of tasks interact within the project. This is done by defining responsibilities, using mapping tools, ensuring timely information availability and managing design, engineering and construction interfaces and associated risks.

Beyond that, I also directly support different teams in project management tasks and data visualisation, providing fresh perspectives to tackle current challenges effectively. This dynamic approach allows me to contribute to the project's success while seeking opportunities for improvement and growth, both internally and through external resources.

Can you summarise the work you carry out on a day-to-day basis?

What I find rewarding about my work is its day-to-day variety. One day, I might engage in discussions with various packages to ensure clear communication among different interfaces. On other occasions, I could be deeply immersed in creating and delivering data visualisation dashboards. Additionally, there are numerous instances where I'm tasked with conducting on-site evaluations, providing firsthand insights for informed decision-making in ongoing projects. This dynamic mix of responsibilities keeps my role stimulating and impactful.

What’s the thing you are most looking forward to/excited about working on this project?

What excites me most about working on this project is the opportunity to go on-site and immerse myself in the expertise of professionals who have dedicated years to the industry. I'm eager to learn firsthand from their experiences and gain invaluable insights into the intricacies of offshore wind farm operations. Additionally, I'm excited about the prospect of contributing to a project that is at the forefront of combating climate change and driving the transition to renewable energy.
