SSE Renewables shines spotlight on local heroes at East Lothian Courier Community Champion Awards

The SSE Renewables Berwick Bank team joined East Lothian community members last week as sponsors of the first East Lothian Courier Champion Awards.

The event took place in Haddington’s Corn Exchange and was hosted by BBC Radio Scotland presenter Bryan Burnett. As the first-ever East Lothian Community Champion Awards, the event aims to recognise the unsung local heroes who go that extra mile to help their communities thrive.

There were 11 categories in total – recognising individuals and groups in everything from sport to music, business to charity – giving them a well-deserved moment in the limelight to celebrate their achievements.

We sponsored the Youth Community Champion category and were able to present the award to winner, Jack Tait, a young teenager from MacMerry who has raised thousands of pounds for the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity after overcoming his own health challenges.

As part of the development of Berwick Bank Wind Farm we have been working closely with the communities of East Lothian for a number of years. It’s been a privilege to see the extraordinary passion, commitment, and wealth of brilliant community initiatives underway in the region. In particular, we have been proud to be involved in a number of projects which focus on supporting young people in skills and training.

It was a great opportunity to sponsor the Youth Community Champion Award which acknowledges a terrific young person who has made an outstanding contribution to their local area. It was fantastic to be involved in the awards and to recognise the efforts of people living across East Lothian.
